Environmental hazards limit housing values in 25 percent of zip codes

MICHELLE BRUNETTI POST / PRESS OF ATLANTIC CITY – About one in four single-family homes and condos in the nation — a total of about 17.3 million — are in zip codes with high or very high risk for at least one of major environmental hazard, according to ATTOM Data Solutions in its third annual Environmental Hazards Housing Risk Index.

Their zip codes either contain a Superfund site, a brownfield site, known polluters or poor air quality, according to the real estate data base company.

That percentage holds true for New Jersey as well, where 80 of 335 zip code areas are considered high risk, said ATTOM Senior Vice President Daren Blomquist …
