MIKE KELLY / NORTHJERSEY.COM – Let’s begin with the good news. The waist-deep pool of smelly, bacteria-laced rainwater that stretched nearly a half-mile down the spine of this town’s pristine beach last August, sparking protests against Gov. Chris Christie, is mostly dry now except for a few muddy patches.

Now the bad news: Margate’s unwelcome body of water, which residents derisively nicknamed “Lake Christie,” could return any day. It all depends on what storm blows off the Atlantic and whether an elaborate system of pipes and pumps now being installed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers works …
