Highlands defenders lost battles to Christie, but won the war

CHRISTOPHER MAAG / NORTHJERSEY.COM – Julia Somers stood on the shore of Splitrock Reservoir looking south, into the sun. Behind her was a view of her victory, and Chris Christie’s defeat. It was a view of nature unchanged. Ice stretched across the lake. Above the lake, the hills were covered with skinny bare trees and a top sheet of snow.

There was not a house in sight.
