Opinion: Murphy’s political climate change on environment

HARRIET SHUGARMAN and ALLAN MARGOLIN / NORTHJERSEY.COM – During his inaugural speech, Gov. Phil Murphy said, “A stronger and fairer New Jersey accepts the reality of climate change, invests aggressively in renewable energy, and upholds the goals of the Paris Climate Accord.”

Murphy’s sentiments are welcome, especially coming from the new leader of our state which, in the recent past, has repeatedly dragged its feet on addressing the realities of climate impacts – even following the enormous human and economic impacts of Superstorm Sandy.

For the sake of all New Jersey residents – especially our state’s children – the governor must act quickly and boldly, re-establishing New Jersey as a national leader on climate action. Murphy can propel the Garden State into a new era of climate-smart political leadership, business incentives and divestment from fossil fuels …
