DAVID DANZIS / NJ HERALD – New Jersey will join Pennsylvania, New York and Delaware in support of a ban on hydraulic fracturing in the Delaware River Basin, the governor said on Thursday, reversing a position held by the previous administration.

Gov. Phil Murphy was in Warren County to announce New Jersey’s support to ban fracking in the nearly 3,000-square-mile watershed, which includes four states, 42 counties and 838 municipalities.

“Fracking should not have a role in the energy future of New Jersey,” Murphy said. “We must continue to protect our residents from the risk of contaminated water and protect our environment from the harmful effects of fossil fuel extraction. We will continue to move toward a clean energy economy that takes the best interests of our environment and our residents into account.” …
