Editorial: Land preservation remains good news for South Jersey, so far

PRESS OF ATLANTIC CITY – Last November, we were delighted when a Nature Conservancy study funded by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service found that the salt marshes along Delaware Bay are “the largest, most resilient area” in the combined Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region.

That means that if ocean and bay waters rise as expected from the warming planet, these marshes will survive and even help offset the loss of habitat elsewhere. These marshes have the room to migrate inland, up a gentle slope, with appropriate sediments and water quality …
