Barrier to bobcats: Conservancy groups purchase land to protect habitat

NEW JERSEY HERALD – The Ridge and Valley Conservancy has teamed up with the Nature Conservacy to purchase 84 acres of intact forest in Hardwick and Blairstown in an effort to protect the habitat of the endangered North American bobcats and other forest species in the area.

The property was purchased from Maureen Raisch, who was motivated to protect the land based on the visions and wishes of her late husband, Clifford Raisch.

“We’re excited to have partnered with RVC on the acquisition of the Raisch property.” said Barbara Brummer, the state director of the Nature Conservacy. “The protection of lands within Bobcat Alley are so important for water quality in the Paulinskill as well as climate resiliency and for wildlife migration.” …
