Murphy administration tries to stop environmentalists from contesting Exxon settlement

SCOTT FALLON / NORTHJERSEY.COM – In a move that surprised environmentalists, the Murphy administration has filed court papers to block an appeal by advocacy groups to challenge a controversial $225 million settlement Gov. Chris Christie made with ExxonMobil over polluting wetlands.

The Attorney General’s Office submitted a brief this week with the state Supreme Court asking the justices not to take up an appeal by four environmental groups and a former state senator who want the settlement tossed because they argue it is far too low.
