Opinion: Environmental protection argument has major disparity

SHARON FURLONG / BUCKS COUNTY COURIER TIMES – It is an often-heard refrain when talking about environmental protection, “But what about the jobs lost?” It is also a well-worn argument, especially regarding the natural gas industry and the state of Pennsylvania — amongst many others — and gives rise to another refrain trotted out by politicians and businesses, “But what about the revenue this industry contributes?”

I am writing this letter to cite research statistics that might give everyone some pause. These research statistics are only for the 114-mile, four-state Delaware River and its 13,000 square miles of watershed. And these research statistics are getting old already — as of 2010 — so the new figures would surely be more startling …
