Water system managers plan for upgrades, but funding is scarce

LEAH MISHKIN / NJTV NEWS – New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Catherine McCabe says the way responsibility is divvied up among so many different entities complicates the work to fix the state’s aging water infrastructure. It also doesn’t help that it’s going to take billions of dollars over decades, and McCabe says they only have millions at this point.

“The responsibility for the operation, maintenance and repair water infrastructure is incredibly distributed among so many different entities,” McCabe said. “The towns and the utilities, I understand, are in a constant struggle to prioritize.” …
