Editorial: DuPont rallies ‘round the flag in N.J. pollution case

SOUTH JERSEY TIMES – What’s so patriotic about messing up New Jersey’s air, water and land, even if some of that was done in the service of aiding U.S. forces in World War I and World War II? Enough, the DuPont Co. apparently presumes, that it’s using this is as a defense against various state anti-pollution lawsuits at four sites in the Garden State.

DuPont’s contention is that it cannot be held liable in litigation filed by New Jersey’s attorney general, because some of the toxic residue resulted from operations undertaken by DuPont through federal wartime contracts. It ramped up production of millions of pounds of chemicals, its legal filings state, because Uncle Sam ordered the materials and needed them pronto …
