Among 105 polluters, only one has agreed to pay for $1.4 billion Passaic River cleanup

SCOTT FALLON / NORTHJERSEY.COM – More than three years after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced a $1.4 billion cleanup of the Passaic River, only one of the 105 polluters has committed to paying for what would be one of the most expensive toxic cleanups in the nation.

EPA officials say they are confident the plan to remove some cancer-causing dioxin, PCBs, mercury and other industrial pollution from the river’s lower eight miles will move forward with a start date slated for the middle of 2021 …
