EPA finalizes $72M cleanup plan for S. Jersey Superfund site. Sierra Club calls it a ‘Band-Aid’

FRANK KUMMER / PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has finalized a $72 million cleanup plan for the Matteo & Sons Superfund site in Gloucester County, but New Jersey’s Sierra Club chapter is criticizing the agency’s reliance on an asphalt cap for part of the project, calling it a “Band-Aid.”

Cleanup plans have been underway for years at the 82.5-acre site on Crown Point Road in West Deptford, and a public meeting was held in July. The announcement that the agency has finalized the plan came Tuesday …
