Protesters rally at Liberty State Park to ward off billionaire’s golf course expansion

TOM NOBILE / NORTHJERSEY.COM – The effort to save one of Liberty State Park’s waterfront vistas from a billionaire developer bent on expanding a prestigious New Jersey golf club into the natural preserve could be summed up in four words.

“Whose park? Our park.”

The chant reverberated through an unseasonably warm breeze on Saturday along the edge of the state park overlooking the Statue of liberty. There, hundreds of protesters gathered to fight a proposed three-hole expansion of Liberty National Golf Club at Caven Point – a protected peninsula of the adjacent state park in Jersey City – and back a bill before the state Legislature that would ban further development in the area …
